Simon Jones has recently completed a 6-year term of office as the Director of the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), based in Geneva. In this chief executive role, he was responsible for all aspects of the strategy and operations of the UN’s IT shared service organisation, providing services to around 40 members of the UN family. He is now engaged in a range of advisory roles using his IT and leadership experience.
Simon has a degree in mathematics from Cambridge University and started his career as a research scientist doing mathematical modelling using large computers, and gradually moved into IT management.
He was head of the Technical Computing & Applications group in ICI, Director of Information Technology at CAB International and Head of Technology UK for Thomson Dialog, before being appointed as Chief Information Officer for the Department for International Development (DFID) and then to his UN role.
Simon is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and his home is next to the Oxford Brookes campus in Oxford.
