Support

Every international student needs some support to achieve their potential and feel happy and well at university. Whether you just need some quick study tips, in-depth academic advice, physical or mental health support, or comprehensive careers guidance, we offer extensive support to meet your academic and personal needs.

Academic support

A personal academic adviser

You will have a member of teaching staff dedicated to guiding you throughout your studies and providing comprehensive academic support. They may help you to reflect on your academic progress, review your career aspirations, and support you in communicating with other academic staff. Read more about our academic advisers.

Academic English development and Study Skills

You can take classes to develop and perfect your academic English skills during your undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Some classes are credit bearing so they contribute to your degree. Find out more about English language support.

In addition, you can access tutorials, workshops and online resources to help you reach your academic potential.

“I used Wellbeing in my second year when I went through a rough patch and they really helped me. I probably wouldn't have finished my degree without the Wellbeing staff.”

Personal support

International Student Advice Team

Our advisers in the International Student Advice Team (ISAT) offer a wide range of practical support and advice regarding your visa status, employment options, personal finance and more. ISAT also runs social events, trips and other activities so you can meet other students outside of the classroom and explore Oxford and other parts of the UK.

Careers advice

One reason you might study with us is the benefit an Oxford Brookes degree gives you when applying for your dream job. Our outstanding Careers service provides all the help you need including one-to-one consultations, practice interviews, workshops on job searching and CV/resume writing, and on-campus job fairs where you can meet prospective employers. You can use Careers for up to three years after you graduate.

Professionally trained counsellors

Speak with one of our counsellors about any personal or psychological issues you want to discuss. Alternatively, take part in a group workshop, attend a talk or use the service’s range of helpful resources.

Disability and Dyslexia/SpLD support

Our Disability and Dyslexia/SpLD support services provide comprehensive support and advice throughout your student journy. This includes financial support for assistive technology, in-class support, special exam arrangements and more. Our facilities and accommodation are also designed with people with disabilities' needs in mind.

Medical centre and dentistry services

Our on-campus medical centre offers a friendly, confidential primary medical service. Damira Dental Studios, Oxford dentistry service, provides a complete range of dental treatments from fully qualified dentists.

Global Buddies

Our Global Buddies scheme can partner you with a current UK student to help you settle into university life at Oxford Brookes. You might keep in touch throughout the year by email, via social media or in person, including at Global Buddies social events.

“I have used the Centre for Academic Development service to help check my assignments. This was incredibly helpful as I am not a home student so my grammar mistakes in essays are common.”

Samirah Altukhaim - Kuwait, pre-sessional English followed by MSc Rehabilitation
