Live ceremony stream - watch your ceremony from any location
Friends and family who are unable to attend your graduation will be able to watch your ceremony online from our live stream page for free!
Graduation is a ceremonial event and we encourage all of our graduates to wear full academic dress (a gown, hood and mortar board). It's not compulsory but most graduates do and it is one of the things that makes graduation such a special day!
You will be able to order a gown when your registration opens:
- Spring graduation: 1 February 2024 until 1 May 2024
- Autumn graduation: 1 April 2024 until 9 August 2024
If you're unable to pre-book a gown, you can hire one on the day of your graduation.
Graduates and staff should read the academic dress requirements for the ceremony.
How much does it cost to hire a gown?
Prices vary but hire begins from £41 for foundation/undergraduate gowns; £46 for masters gowns and up to £54 for PhD gowns. It is usually more expensive to buy a gown than to hire one.
I missed the deadline to order my gown. What should I do?
Don’t worry if you missed the deadline. Ede & Ravenscroft have gowns you can hire on the day. If you have any questions, you can contact them.
When and where can I pick up my gown?
You can pick up your gown (or hire one on the day) in the Clerici Building, 2 hours before your ceremony starts. Please collect your tickets first, you will need your Student Name Card to collect your gown.
Staff from Ede & Ravenscoft will be on hand to help you put your gown on correctly.
Don't forget to have your order number with you.
Cancellation
Gown orders can be cancelled prior to the event. Please see the Ede & Ravenscroft's terms and policy information.
What is the dress code for me and my guests?
Graduation is a formal and ceremonial event so we would encourage graduates to dress smartly, or you can wear traditional/religious clothing, and to wear full academic dress. For more information, please see our academic dress regulations.
Guests are also encouraged to dress smartly, although there is no formal dress code.
What do the gown colours mean?
Please see 'gown colours' on the academic dress page.
Photographers can take an individual portrait of you, as well as photographs with family members and friends. When you order your gown, you will also be offered available photography options for your ceremony as a part of your order.
A photograph will also be taken by our official photographers, Ede & Ravenscroft, as you shake hands with the Vice-Chancellor once your name is announced on stage. You will have an opportunity to purchase this photograph after the ceremony in The Forum.
You will be able to order photography when your registration opens:
- Spring graduation: from 1 February 2024
- Autumn graduation: from 1 April 2024
If you're unable to pre-book, you can visit a photography studio on the day of your graduation
Where are the photography studios on campus?
The photography studios will be on the second floor of the John Henry Brookes Building.
Don't forget to have your order number with you.
Can I have my gown on in my photographs?
You can only pick up your gown 2 hours before your ceremony start time. If you would like your gown to be in your photos, we recommend pre-booking or dropping in after your ceremony.
Photographs taken on the stage at the ceremony
A photograph of every graduate will be taken as they are presented on the stage at their ceremony. These images will be available on our official photographer's website and available in The Forum to purchase on the day. Graduates who do not want their photograph published must contact the photography company directly. You will find their contact details above.
Oxford Brookes University may have official photographers around campus taking photographs and video footage of the celebrations for publicity purposes. If you do not wish your image to be used for this purpose, please speak to the photographer on the day.
