Allocation policy

Our allocation policy explains how we allocate rooms in halls and which groups of students get priority or are guaranteed accommodation. The key information is summarised below.

*All the application deadlines and allocation dates can be found on our How to Apply webpage.

We can only allocate accommodation to applicants after their place at Oxford Brookes has been confirmed by our admissions team, i.e. once they are holding an unconditional course offer.

Firm choice applicants

Firm choice applicants joining in September will be guaranteed accommodation as long as they apply and meet the academic requirements by their deadlines*. Where possible the allocation will be one of the applicant's three choices however we cannot guarantee this as it is subject to availability.

Firm choice applicants who apply/meet the requirements by the final allocation deadlines* will still be guaranteed accommodation however there is then a lesser chance it will be one of their three choices.

Firm choice applicants who already hold an unconditional offer can apply for the first two rounds of allocations*.

Insurance choice applicants

Insurance choice applicants are guaranteed accommodation as long as they apply and meet the academic requirements of their offer by their deadlines*. Where possible, we will offer insurance choice students a room in one of their chosen options however this cannot be guaranteed and they may be offered a room in another hall.

Clearing applicants

When possible we will offer accommodation to applicants who come via clearing. However, we cannot guarantee accommodation due to availability and applicants should be prepared for the possibility that they will not secure a place in halls.

Priority and guaranteed accommodation

The following applicants will be given priority and guaranteed accommodation.

  • Applicants who will be under the age of 18 on 30 September.
  • Applicants transitioning from care and care-experienced students and eligible students classified as estranged will be guaranteed accommodation provided they make Oxford Brookes their firm choice.
  • Applicants and students with medical conditions or disabilities who require a specific type of suitable accommodation*. Applicants will need to provide us with information about their needs and supporting medical evidence when they apply for accommodation.

*If you need adapted accommodation due to a physical or mobility condition it is vital that you contact the Inclusive Support Team to ensure we are able to meet your specific needs. Certain types of accessible/adapted accommodation are limited in availability so it is important that you speak to us early. More information about students who need special consideration due to a physical or mobility condition can be found in the Allocation Policy here under paragraph 5.5.
