My experience at Brookes has been nothing but positive. I work in Indonesia, which has more of a difficult relationship with LGBTQ people at a national level though I personally have never experienced any issues with any of my colleagues or NGO staff. I am aware this could be an issue for other staff and students working abroad and I want to help work with the university to address this.
Role models can highlight the diversity of roles we play, to highlight that sexuality or gender expression are not always a barrier to your career progress and to help tackle the remaining barriers we are experiencing.
I’m passionate about wildlife conservation and working with people to make this happen. Anything involving Star Wars, Star Trek or Dr Who then I am a fan. Also rather passionate about Scottish Rugby (!)
The LGBTQ+ group at Brookes is inclusive, active and visible. All these things are crucial for staff and students and to show Brookes as a leader in intersecting equality.
