Before you leave, remember to pay your tuition fees to Oxford Brookes or to confirm with Oxford Brookes that your Student Loans Company will contribute towards your fees as usual. If you are eligible for UK support and on an exchange/work placement (Erasmus+, International, or a combination) for a full academic year, you will also benefit from a partial tuition fee waiver and can expect to pay £1,500 in fees.
Funding for European Work Placements
Student Finance England Travel Grants
If your student finance is based on your household income, you may qualify for a travel grant from Student Finance England.
Erasmus+ Funding
Under the Withdrawal Agreement negotiated with the EU, the UK will continue to participate in the Erasmus+ programme (2014-2020). This means that the University will continue to use EU funding for the full duration of our Erasmus+ Grant Agreement, which expires in May 2023.
The Erasmus+ grant is not a maintenance grant, so do not expect it to fully cover all your living costs while abroad. You will also be entitled to Erasmus+ funding even if you are in receipt of financial support from the Student Loans Company.
In order to work out your funding allocation for your period of work placement, please see the table below and note that whilst the table specifies funding in Euros, you will receive your payment in pounds.
Students with a low household income who are in receipt of a Brookes bursary may also be entitled to a monthly supplement of an additional €20.
Students with a severe disability or exceptional special needs may be able to access extra funding to cover additional costs associated with studying or working in Europe through the Erasmus+ programme. Please contact erasmus@brookes.ac.uk for further information.
Funding will be paid to students in two allocations as follows:
- Initial allocation of funding (80% of total) will be paid during semester 1 to students undertaking work placements during semester 1, or semester 1 and 2 (full academic year). Payment will be made within 30 days of signing the Erasmus+ Grant Agreement and once all paperwork is in place.
- Initial allocation of funding (80% of total) will be paid during semester 2 for students undertaking work placements during semester 2. Payment will be made within 30 days of signing the Erasmus+ Grant Agreement and once all paperwork is in place.
- Final allocation of funding (20% of total) will be paid once the work placement has been completed, the Work Placement Certificate has been received by the Exchanges Office and the on-line feedback report has been completed for the EU (European Union).
Please note that neither allocation of funding will be paid until all specified documentation is in place. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have completed all the required documentation. If you are unclear about what is required, please see the relevant section of the website European Work Placements.
