BRPs and Digital eVisas

Applying outside the UK

If you applied for a Student visa from a country that is outside the EU/EEA, you will receive an email/letter confirming the duration of your visa and a travel visa vignette (sticker) in your passport that allows you to travel to the UK within the dates listed on the visa.

You will not receive a BRP (Biometrics Residence Permit Card) card. Instead you will need to create a UKVI account which will enable you to view the details of your eVisa online, for example, your type of permission, your visa expiry date and your conditions of stay in the UK. See section below, How can I create a UKVI account to view my eVisa?

If you are from the EU/EEA and used the ID Check App for your biometrics, you will be issued with a digital visa and not a vignette in your passport. You will be able to sign in to the view and prove service to access your digital visa and prove your status to others by generating a share code.

Those students who have a BRP card that will expire on 31 December 2024

Your BRP will expire on 31 December 2024, but your visa end date on your visa decision email/letter is the correct end date of your visa.

Before your BRP expires, you will need to create a UKVI account in order to access your digital eVisa. See section below, How can I create a UKVI account to view my eVisa?

How can I create a UKVI account to view my eVisa?

To view your eVisa you will need to create a UKVI account. You can watch the UKVI video which tells you how to create a UKVI account.

Creating a UKVI account will enable you to view the details of your eVisa online, for example, your type of permission, your visa expiry date and your conditions of stay in the UK. Personal information such as contact details can be updated in your UKVI account.

Your eVisa will be linked to your passport in your UKVI account. You must keep your passport or ID card details up to date and tell the UKVI about any changes so that at the UK border your immigration status can be easily identified. You will still need to carry your current passport with you.

If you have a new passport and you’re still waiting for confirmation that your UKVI account has been updated, you should also carry your old document with you.

Use the view and prove service to access your digital visa and prove your status to others by generating a share code.
