The institution will give consideration to the appropriateness of the following measures on each occasion that a redundancy situation arises. Wherever possible, this will take place before staff are placed at risk of redundancy. This list is not exhaustive and more options may be considered:
- trying to make savings in non-staff budgets
- reduction of staff levels by natural wastage
- voluntary severance
- redeployment (including, where necessary, retraining) to other parts of the organisation
- reduction or elimination of overtime working
- freezing of external recruitment
- ending the employment of external contractors
- considering volunteers for part-time working
- considering volunteers for job sharing
- sabbaticals and secondments
- seeking alternative funding, e.g. where funding for a particular project has expired.
