One of the key ambitions within our People and Culture Strategy is to provide an employee experience that makes our people feel valued and supported and promotes their engagement with the University and its objectives. We have listened to feedback provided through the O C Tanner survey and a series of workshops and this document summarises the experience we aim to provide. Our ambition is that people can agree with all the statements here and feel that this genuinely describes what it is like to work here.
I am part of something bigger
- I am proud to work for Oxford Brookes because I see the great things we achieve and the positive impact we make.
- I feel that I make a difference and effectively contribute to a meaningful purpose (regardless of which role or part of the organisation I work in).
- I feel part of the bigger picture and have a voice in the direction of the University and know why decisions have been made.
- I am meaningfully involved in the key decisions that affect me and my team - I feel my voice is heard.
- I see that we are all working in the same direction and our actions are aligned with each other.
I work within an inclusive community
- I feel connected and that I belong to part of a community (not just in my team but more widely).
- I see individuals, teams and departments working effectively together - we collaborate, share knowledge and communicate well.
- I feel able to be myself at work.
- I believe we have an inclusive culture marked by dignity and respect for each other.
- I see that people actively speak out against discriminatory behaviour and act as allies to support colleagues.
- I know how to access effective support if I do experience any issues and I trust that my concerns will be taken seriously.
I experience fulfilment and wellbeing
- I am motivated and I feel fulfilled by the work I do.
- I feel that my efforts are recognised and valued, and that we celebrate our success.
- I feel that my terms and conditions, including my pay, are fair and equitable.
- I feel I am supported in achieving a positive state of wellbeing, including in key areas such as work/life balance and work demands.
I can achieve and progress
- I see that my colleagues are committed to doing quality work, take accountability for delivery in their areas and support others to do the same.
- I feel that I can make meaningful progress with my work, that things get done and that there is a sense of vibrancy.
- I have clarity about my objectives and priorities (and those of others in my team) and how they support the University in achieving its purpose.
- I feel part of a progressive organisation which actively looks to improve how we work and continually learns.
I experience personal growth and development
- I feel encouraged to try new things, contribute and challenge without fear of failure or blame.
- I am trusted.
- I have the opportunity to progress and I am supported with both the resources and feedback that helps me stretch and grow.
- I know where I stand because people have candid and open conversations and give me feedback.
I am well-led
- Managers and leaders here act with integrity and are empowering, considerate, credible and enterprising, demonstrating the qualities outlined in the University’s Leadership and Management Framework.
- I see the University’s Guiding Principles reflected in our policies and procedures and informing organisational decisions.
I am enabled to do my work
- My interactions with other parts of the University are made as simple and straightforward as possible.
- The systems and processes that I engage with are effective and efficient and designed for the customer.
- I can easily access the information I need.
- There is a free flow of information and transparency that means I can make informed decisions.
- I do not feel unnecessarily constrained by red-tape or rules.
