About us
This research aims to advance the 15-minute city concept by addressing critical justice-related concerns such as gentrification, physical discrimination, non-representative practices, and non-participatory governance. It seeks to mitigate potential unjust outcomes and promote more equitable, diverse, and democratic urban environments. The research conceptualises the notion of a ‘just 15-minute city’, develops an innovative evaluation framework to be applied to three case study areas in cities where 15-minute city schemes have been implemented, provides policy recommendations for each case, and generates a policy toolkit to guide cities towards a just 15-minute city. The toolkit will also be applied to Oxford, incorporating just 15-minute city principles into its local plan.
The main objectives of the research are:
- Exploring how the theory and practice of the 15-minute city have incorporated principles of a just city.
- Theorising the concept of just 15-minute city and developing an evaluation framework.
- Evaluating case study neighbourhoods using the developed framework through in-depth fieldwork and stakeholder engagement and producing policy-briefing documents.
- Developing a policy toolkit to guide cities towards implementing a just 15-minute city.
- Applying the acquired knowledge to a live project in Oxford to support the practical integration of just 15-minute city policies into local decision-making
