Women in Science: UK-Brazil Gender Equality Partnerships

Oxford Brookes University is one of the six UK universities funded by the British Council to work in partnership with Brazilian universities to mentor them in advancing gender equality for women in STEM (part of the Women in Science: UK-Brazil Gender Equality Partnerships Call.

This institutional project is led by Dr Charikleia Tzanakou (Oxford Brookes Business School/ Centre for Diversity Policy Research and Practice) with support from Dr Clare Stovell (Oxford Brookes Business School/ Centre for Diversity Policy Research and Practice) by Professor Simonetta Manfredi (senior contact lead) and Jane Butcher (EDI contact ).

This project will tap into a wealth of expertise and experience on gender equality efforts in higher education from a cross-faculty team (Health and Life Sciences, Technology, Design and Environment and Oxford Brookes Business School) comprised of Astrid Schloerscheidt,  Gordana Collier, Anne Laure Humbert,  Susan Brookes, Sue Brownill, Jill Childs, Obrey Alexis. The project team was brought together through the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Research, Innovation and KE network.

The project envisages not only to provide capacity building resources for the wider Brazilian HE community on gender equality but would be a first step for further collaboration with Brazilian colleagues. The Brazilian partners are Leticia De Oliveira (Fluminense Federal University) and Fernanda Staniscuaski (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul). They are both involved in various academic networks and groups in Brazil to advance gender equality including the Parent in Science Movement, which got the Nature Award for Inspiring Women in Science - Outreach category.
