Research

The overarching theme of my research rests upon inequalities in higher education and social justice with a particular focus on gender (in)equalities, mobility and transitions from education to employment (including transitions from doctoral training to academic careers and beyond). There are thus three research directions in my work (which are overlapping and you will see mentioned in my supporting statement): a) Gender equality, diversity and inclusion in organisations with a focus on gender in HE; b) Transitions from education to employment and social mobility c) Academic (im)mobilities and inequalities.

I am particularly interested in how intersectional inequalities are reproduced and disrupted in higher education, and explore this through analysing both micro-perspectives (access to opportunities, individuals’ educational experiences, career transitions, and perceptions) and macro-perspectives (international frameworks, national and institutional structures, policies and activities). I am also interested in how academic (im)mobilities contribute to (in)equalities; how transitions from education to employment are affected by gender, socio-economic background, historical and cultural contexts; and what the role of higher education is in disrupting (in)equalities and developing social justice.
