News Prior to the pandemic, Oxford Brookes ran an in-person annual Placement of the Year Awards event. Building upon the success of this, we have developed the initiative to celebrate excellence with all nominated placement areas without judging and allocating awards for winners. Hereon, we will be renaming this initiative as Celebrating Excellence with Practice Education Partners - or CEPEP for short.
Celebrating Excellence with Practice Education Partners (CEPEP)
Oxford Brookes University Health and Life Sciences students and staff are celebrating the value and importance of outstanding placement experiences.
In recent academic years since the height of the pandemic, students from subjects including Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Paramedic Science have benefitted from the return to a full programme of placements. The volume of students rating their placement as excellent has remained high with over 260 of them submitting their praise to us.
The messages of appreciation that these students submitted between June 2021 and April 2023 have been collected into a new booklet Celebrating Excellence in Practice Education 2023.
Working with placement partners in primary care settings, community teams, hospitals, charities and local government organisations, students attended placements across Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, and some travelled further afield to Yorkshire, Dorset, London and Pembrokeshire. Several international students even completed placements back in their home country.
To all of the staff at organisations who provide placements, we would like to say a huge “thank you” for making our students’ experience with you so successful. We are truly inspired by the commitment of placement partners to continue to provide such high quality placement experiences.
As we all look to the future to develop a talented and sustainable workforce that will thrive, we are impressed by the great examples of collaborative working we see from our placement providers. Your shared passion for shaping our healthcare and Social Work students enables us all to support them to become the best professionals that they can be.
Knowledge, understanding, care, compassion and adaptability are abundant in placements for all programmes, and we applaud the dedication that is put into student placement experiences on a daily basis.
“The publication of the Long-Term Workforce Plan has set out ambitious goals for our workforce. All of us together are at the heart of making these ambitions a reality. We are therefore immensely grateful for the willingness to work together to invest in the future workforce and for the contribution to the early development of the careers of our students.”
Astrid Schloerscheidt, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
To all the students who have shared their praise for their outstanding placement experiences with us - thank you for taking the time to recognise the placement staff for their efforts in supporting you. Please continue to submit your nominations to us for inclusion in future years so that staff at your outstanding placement will be appropriately recognised.
Oxford Brookes University Health and Life Sciences students have said a huge “thank you” to local placement providers for giving them outstanding learning experiences despite the unprecedented challenges of working through a pandemic. And their messages of gratitude have been collected into a booklet, Celebrating Excellence in Practice Education 2022.
Students from subjects including Nursing, Social Work, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Paramedic Science worked on placements with a wide range of providers in Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and locations across the South and Midlands, to as far afield as Cornwall, Cheshire and London. As well as supporting vital work during the pandemic, students have gained invaluable experience for their future careers.
With the current pandemic meaning it isn’t appropriate for us to run an in-person ceremony this year, the University has decided to thank all our placement providers after being inundated with a vast number of nominations by grateful students.
Read all the students’ messages of thanks in Celebrating Excellence in Practice Education 2022.
“To the teams at all our placement providers, we would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ for your dedication to providing outstanding learning experiences for our students. The work of these experienced practitioners enables students to integrate theory and current evidence into professional practice. This directly benefits patients and clients.”
