Fire drill policy

If you discover a fire

  • Raise Alarm by breaking glass in appropriate Fire Alarm Box
  • Attack the Fire if possible, with the appliances provided but without personal risks

On hearing the alarm

  • Evacuate the children immediately by the nearest safe exit – take registers and children’s information box.
  • The Manager or person in charge to ring the Fire Brigade.
  • One person to check building (turn off appliances if appropriate).
  • Take children as far as possible from the building to designated assembly (Discoverers’ garden entrance gate).
  • Check registers – ensure ALL children and staff are present.
  • Close doors and DO NOT re-enter building until the “All Clear” is given.

Location of fire equipment

Ground floor

Explorers’ Room (4 months – 2 years)

  • Fire Alarm Box on garden door frame and on wall next to windows in each sleep room.

  • Fire Extinguishers on wall by garden door.
  • Fire Blanket on wall between milk kitchen and bathroom.

Discoverers’ Room (2 – 5 years)

  • Fire Alarm Box on both garden door frames and on wall by external door in sleep room.  
  • Fire Extinguishers on wall by 2nd garden door and on wall in central area.
  • Fire Blankets on wall above both sink units.

Entrance

  • Fire Alarm Box on wall by external door.
  • Fire Extinguisher on wall by external door.

Laundry

  • Fire Alarm Box on wall by external door.
  • Fire Extinguisher on wall by internal door.

Kitchen

  • Fire Alarm Box on wall by external door.
  • Fire Extinguisher on wall by internal door.
  • Fire Blanket on wall above sink unit.

First floor

Staff Room

  • Fire Blanket on wall above sink.

Corridor

  • Fire Extinguishers on wall next to loft door.
