We are looking forward to welcoming our new international students from across the world in September 2024.

We recognise that coming to study in the UK is an exciting time but can also feel a little daunting. There will be plenty of support in place to help you settle into life at Oxford Brookes University.

Visas and immigration

In order to study your course at Oxford Brookes, some international students will need to have a Student visa.

To apply for a Student visa, you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, known as a CAS. You can find more information about the CAS application process on the starting a new course page. The Applicant Compliance Team will issue your CAS. Once you receive it, you should apply for your visa as soon as possible so you can arrive for the start of semester. To contact the team:

Please note: all students need to complete our online enrolment process. If you are not a UK national, part of online enrolment will include a Right to Study check, whether or not you need a Student visa. Please check back here after Wednesday 14 August 2024 to find out how to complete these checks.

Travel advice

The International Student Advice Team offers advice on travelling to the UK, including what to expect at border control and when going through customs. They also explain the most common ways of travelling to Oxford from London and a number of major UK airports.

International Student Advice Team (ISAT)

We have a dedicated team to support all our international students. ISAT provides lots of resources before you arrive and a wide range of welcome activities for when you get here.

ISAT can help you with:

  • advice on travelling to the UK and how to get to Oxford
  • getting to your Oxford Brookes accommodation
  • support on finding your way around the University and Oxford once you have arrived
  • social events you can join to help you make friends
  • workshops you can attend to help you settle into the UK
  • advice on opening bank accounts
  • any questions you may have about your Student visa.

There will be a number of social events and workshops available during Welcome Weekend and Induction Week, including an important introductory session for all new international students on Sunday 15 September. Make sure to check our events calendar on Wednesday 14 August for full details.

Pre-arrival workshops

ISAT will be running online pre-arrival workshops available to all new international students. These workshops will look at common topics and FAQs from new students. This will include guidance on submitting a Student visa application and visa information for EU students. If you'd like to get involved, full details will be available on the ISAT events page soon.

Meet and Greet service

ISAT will be running a meet and greet service at Headington Campus, over Welcome Weekend, to help new international students travel to their accommodation.

Exchange and study abroad students

The Global Engagement Team offers support and advice to exchange and study abroad students at Oxford Brookes. Make sure to attend their Welcome Briefing session on Sunday 15 September 2024 where you will:

  • learn more about studying at Oxford Brookes
  • find out how to get help if you need it
  • meet other exchange and study abroad students.

We recommend you attend the International Students' Introduction Session followed by this briefing as both sessions will be useful to you.
