ArcGIS

ArcGIS is produced by ESRI, and is a powerful analytical mapping tool for research projects requiring spatial and geographic analysis. Click on enrol ArcGIS to join the optional self-paced Moodle course, and download course material. You'll need to self-enrol to download the files. 

The University site licence for ArcGIS provides free access to ArcGIS online training courses.

NVivo

NVivo is a powerful qualitative data analysis tool produced by Lumivero (formerly QSR International). NVivo is a software program which helps researchers analyse and organse qualitative data. It can be used to analyse unstructured data such as text, images, audio, or video.

The optional NVivo Moodle course provides a support service for your academic work. There are no assignments and no assessments. You will find resources on current versions of NVivo, including lots of support resources including training sessions. Click on the enrol NVivo button to begin the self-enrolment process.

SPSS

SPSS statistical analysis software is produced by IBM, and is a statistical package designed to present and analyse quantitative data.

You will find SPSS resources in the SPSS Moodle course. This optional course provides a support service for your academic work. There are no assignments and no assessments. The course contains information on installing SPSS without charge, training sessions, video tutorials and many other resources. Click on the enrol SPSS button to begin the self-enrolment process.

Software Licensing

Software Licensing and installation. Oxford Brookes IT Services maintains site licenses for ArcGIS, NVivo, and SPSS. All University public computers provide access to software via Apps Anywhere (ArcGIS Pro 3.1.2 2023 NVivo 14, SPSS 2020 V26 - 30).

All students and staff can install software on private desktop computers and laptops. A license is required which can be requested from IT Services by making a Service Request through the ITS ServiceNow web portal. Click on the Contact ITS Service Desk button. Any problems with requesting a license or installing software should be directed to the IT Service Desk.
