2019 Dubai Graduation Ceremony
Oxford Brookes University was thrilled to host the regional BSc Applied Accounting graduation on Saturday 23 February in Deira, Dubai. The ceremony and reception were hosted in the JW Marriott Hotel. The ceremony brought together students from multiple countries along with their families and guests to celebrate the joyous occasion.
As well as the graduates and their proud relatives, the event was attended by Oxford Brookes University academic and administrative staff, ACCA colleagues and VIP guests.
Kate Ringham, Programme Lead in Applied Accounting, attended the event. She summed up her experience at the ceremony, “It was a privilege to share the day with our graduates and their families, who had travelled from a range of countries to join us in Dubai. The award of BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting recognises students' hard work in both their ACCA examinations and the Research and Analysis Project. I wish all the graduates every success in their future careers as accountants.”
Pro Vice-Chancellor Anne-Marie Kilday welcomed the new graduates to the worldwide network of Oxford Brookes University alumni. The guest speaker Gerard Rahman, CEO of BDO in the United Arab Emirates, then addressed the students, providing them with inspiration for their future accounting careers.
The students were then presented with their awards in the ballroom followed by a Vote of Thanks given by one of the graduates, Whitney Azavedo. Speaking of her delight at the ceremony and her peers’ achievements, Whitney said, "The graduation ceremony was a wonderful experience. It was truly a dream come true. Not only did I have the opportunity to witness it but I had the chance to celebrate this moment with so many of my fellow graduates. Speaking in front of an audience was nerve racking but I couldn't have done it without the help of the Oxford Brookes University faculty that had offered their tremendous support throughout the way. It was an incredible occasion to be part of and an experience I will cherish forever. To all my fellow graduates and those graduating in the future, wishing you all the best and success!"
