Wellness Wednesdays

Wellness Wednesdays allow all Oxford Brookes University students and staff to use our Headington and Harcourt Hill, Brookes Sport gym facilities for FREE, all day on Wednesdays, all year round.  

With fewer lectures on Wednesday afternoons, it's the perfect chance to incorporate some exercise into your week.

We provide options to help you start your gym journey with confidence and our Inclusive Gym Time which is designed for those who prefer a quieter environment for getting active. You can find out more about about these options below.

How to get involved

To attend the gym on a Wellness Wednesday, please follow these steps:

  1. If you do not already have a Brookes Sport account, sign up as a Pay As You Go user.
  2. On your first Wellness Wednesday visit, head to our reception with your Oxford Brookes ID card or proof of enrolment or employment (if you do not yet have your ID card). We will then add Wellness Wednesday access to your account.
  3. Download the Brookes Sport App, available on Android or iOS.
  4. Log in to the app by selecting any activity and clicking "Book." Use your registered email to log in. If you have forgotten your password, click "Reset Password."
  5. To access the gym on Wednesdays, click "Activity Check-In" on the home screen of the app and scan the QR code at the gym entrance.

Inclusive Gym Time

We are proud to have Inclusive Gym Time as part of Wellness Wednesdays. 

This is a sensory quiet time for anyone who prefers to get active in a quieter environment. 

On Wednesday mornings, from when we open until 10.00am, we:

  • turn off the music
  • turn off all public TV screens
  • politely request that all gym users work out as quietly as possible.

Please note that a fire alarm test occurs every Wednesday at around 9.45am at Brookes Sport, Headington.

Starting your gym journey with confidence

New to our gym or working out in general? No worries, we've got you covered!

You can book a FREE Gym Induction or Wellness Check to kickstart your physical wellness journey. If you ever need any support while using our gym, just speak to a member of our friendly team and they'll be more than happy to assist you.

Free Student-Only 'Learn to Lift' Class

We run a FREE, Learn to Lift class exclusively for students every Wednesday 12.00pm to 12.45pm on the gym floor. This small-group class, with a maximum of six participants, is designed to help boost your confidence in the gym. 

To secure your place, you'll need to book through the BrookesSport app (available on Android or iOS) or via our Book Online portal. If you don't have a Brookes Sport Membership, you must be registered as a Pay As You Go user and activate your student status by visiting our reception with your Oxford Brookes ID card or proof of enrolment.

BUCS Wednesdays

Wednesday is the sporting highlight of the week at Brookes Sport, as our TEAMBrookes sports teams compete against universities from across the country in their British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) games.

As part of our Wellness Wednesdays initiative, we're encouraging the entire Oxford Brookes community to get active on Wednesdays and then show their support for our teams at the BUCS fixtures taking place on campus. 

Fixtures take place every Wednesday from mid-October to the end of March and we post the weekly schedule on our Instagram (@brookessportoxford) on Mondays and on our stories stories every Wednesday morning.

Brookes Sport is also a fantastic social hub. We warmly welcome students, staff and community members to use our social spaces, Sports Bar and Breton Café to relax and enjoy quality time with friends.
