Oxford Brookes University is ready for another busy Clearing period this year, aiming to offer prospective students the best opportunities to start their higher education journey.

On Thursday 15 August , the University’s Clearing phone lines will be managed by more than 100 members of staff, ready to answer calls from potential Oxford Brookes students.

Helen Hall, Director of UK Recruitment and Admissions at Oxford Brookes University, said: “Clearing is an important time at Oxford Brookes, as it is for universities across the UK. This year our dedicated staff volunteers will answer approximately 2,500 phone calls from prospective students on Results Day alone.

“In addition to phone support, staff will be available to respond to inquiries through the University website, and applicants will have the opportunity to chat online with current Oxford Brookes students for firsthand insights.

"Clearing is not about last chances. We’re here to support you in discovering new possibilities and moving towards the future you want. We are committed to helping students create their own future by finding the right course for them and making the Clearing process as smooth and supportive as possible.”

Clearing at Oxford Brookes plays a crucial role in shaping the University’s community, by providing an entry route for those who have chosen to apply later in the year, or who have reassessed what they are looking for at university. This year, an Open Day specifically for Clearing applicants will be held on 17 August, offering prospective students a chance to explore the campus and meet faculty staff.

Current Modern Languages and Translation student Abigail Achemampong, 19, applied to Oxford Brookes through Clearing last summer.
Abigail said: “On results day last year, I was feeling quite upset and stressed, but Brookes made my day so much better by offering me a place at university, which I accepted and have never looked back.

“That is why this year I am volunteering to help with the Clearing process myself. I want to be able to help new Brookes students find the path to their future, just like Brookes did for me last year.”

Jack Lynch, 19, who has just completed his first year of studying Motorsport Engineering, also came to Oxford Brookes through Clearing in August 2023.

Jack said: “I couldn’t be happier after the decision I made this time last year to study at Brookes. On results day, the staff members that walked me through the process were very helpful and made the process simple. My advice to any potential students who are thinking of applying through Clearing is to go for it.”
