Clearing phone lines ready for prospective students at Oxford Brookes University
Dedicated volunteers at Oxford Brookes University are preparing to answer up to 3,000 phone calls from prospective students on results day 2023.
More than 100 members of staff at the University will be ready to pick up the phone to potential Oxford Brookes students on Thursday 17 August in the annual university clearing process.
Helen Hall, Director of UK Recruitment at Oxford Brookes University said: “At Oxford Brookes, the clearing process is not about last chances. We know more and more students are using clearing as an opportunity to discover new possibilities for their future, and perhaps consider options that they hadn’t previously.
“The clearing process can be a busy and challenging time for applicants who may have just received their exam results. However our dedicated volunteers can expertly guide you through the process, and find the right course for you.
“We are fully aware of how hard students have worked for their grades, and especially having faced a disruption to their education due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead of judging solely on grades achieved, Oxford Brookes takes a holistic view of the applicants who contact us on results day, and we are ready to support all callers.”
In addition to answering phone calls, volunteers will be taking enquiries through the University website, where applicants can also access an online chat feature.
Ashleigh Thurston, 26, successfully earned a place on the undergraduate Japanese Studies course through clearing in 2021.
Ashleigh said: “I spoke to a member of the admissions team over the phone who was extremely helpful and advised me every step of the way. I joined Oxford Brookes through clearing at the age of 24 and was quite nervous, however the admissions team helped me through each step and also arranged for me to speak with current students.
“My advice for potential students is don’t be afraid to ask questions! I was nervous before speaking with the admissions team but they were so helpful and ensured that I felt comfortable.”
