Earth Day
Earth Day, the world's largest environmental celebration, returns on Saturday 22 April. To mark this, Oxford Brookes will be hosting a range of campus activities on Tuesday 18 April.
Earth Day Fair, The Forum on the Headington Campus
The main event for the day will be an Earth Day Fair in the Forum space in the John Henry Brookes Building on our Headington Campus from 11.00am to 2.00pm. It will be an exciting day full of exhibitors, talks and activities and is free and available to all.
Expect to see contributors covering a range of areas, including:
- environmental volunteering
- learn how to lower your carbon footprint
- details of how to get involved in the Student Environment Network
- information on our Green Impact initiative
- sustainable travel options
- try sustainable food and drinks including a live cooking demo
- get involved in our Hedgehog Friendly campus initiatives
- information on sustainability at Oxford Brookes and a range of sustainability projects being delivered by our students
- a range of competitions with fantastic prizes to be won.
Free coffees will be available from carbon neutral oat milk company Minor Figures.
Sustainability Tour
A free, 45-minute tour will take place at 1.00pm on the Headington Campus covering sustainable buildings, decarbonisation, biodiversity, water conservation, recycling, sustainable food initiatives and transport. The tour will be conducted by members of the Environmental Sustainability Team and you can sign up via the Google Form.
Litter Pick
Get involved with a Headington Campus litter pick to help protect wildlife on campus and within the community. The litter pick with the Community Engagement team starts at 10.00am meeting at the John Henry Brookes Building reception. Use the Google Form to sign up for the session.
Sustainable and Resilient Futures (SRF)
The SRF Network is pleased to contribute to the Earth Day celebrations. Please join the network in the Library Training Room in the John Henry Brookes Building between 11.00am and midday to find out about SRF and hear student members talk about their research. You can also visit their stall in the Forum space between 11.00am and 2.00pm.
Travel Fair
In the Western Courtyard on the Headington Campus we will have a sustainable travel fair with free labour bike repair from Bike Doctor, e-scooter information from Voi and bike marking from our own Security Team.
CPR training
The British Heart Foundation will be teaching students on how to save a life with free CPR training sessions at 11:30am or 1.00pm in the John Henry Brookes Building’s Union Hall. Book a space via the Brookes Union webpages.
Peace Garden
Members of staff and students will be helping to plant a new Peace Garden in the Buckley Quad on the Headington Campus to increase biodiversity on campus and provide a quiet outdoor space for reflection and meditation. This session is now fully booked.

Cycle safety
As part of our Step into Spring activities, you can sign up to two cycle training sessions during April to support safer and more sustainable travel. Use the online form to sign up for one of the two sessions taking place on:
- Monday 17 April (1.00pm to 3.00pm)
- Friday 21 April (10.00am to midday)
How to find a Green Job online session
There is a growing demand for jobs within the environmental sustainability sector, so-called “green jobs”, both from job seekers and employers. The demand for green skills currently outstrips supply. The online session taking place from 1.00pm to 2.00pm on Tuesday 25 April will explore what green jobs are, what skills are in demand and how you can prepare yourself for finding a role related to environmental sustainability, regardless of the sector or area you are interested in. Students can sign up via the online registration page.
