Bile Acid and Steroid Hormone Metabolism in Disease

About us

Research in our group focuses on understanding the role that bile acids and steroid hormones play in disease pathogenesis. In particular, we are interested in how steroid hormone and bile acid metabolism is altered in metabolic disease, and the impact that this has on liver and gastrointestinal health.

We combine fundamental and translational research, using in vitro, in vivo, and human studies, to understand disease at the molecular and physiological level.

Our research has important implications for the understanding of Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) and metabolic health.

To involve a wider audience we regularly take part in public events; designing, organising, and delivering activities for children and young adults that explain key concepts in the scientific method, endocrinology, diabetes, and the importance of exercise and a healthy diet.
