Green Impact teams achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold awards
Seven teams from across Oxford Brookes have achieved Green Impact Bronze, Silver and Gold awards in recognition of the positive steps they have made towards better sustainability practices on campus.
Green Impact is an award-winning United Nations programme designed to support environmentally and socially sustainable practice within organisations. In the 2023/24 academic year we had 11 teams and 57 staff members at Brookes actively engaging in the programme. This was Brookes’ third year of participation and all the teams across the University have been working hard to deliver positive sustainability actions. This year’s award winners are:
Gold
- Campus Services
- Learning Resources
- Centre for Academic Development
- Residences
- Oxford Brookes Business School
- Marketing, Recruitment and Engagement
- Estates and Campus Services, Sports
All teams were audited by students in April. Part of the programme offers free Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment accredited training for our students.
The Green Impact teams have worked hard to identify opportunities to improve their environmental impact within their departments. Highlights include:
- installation of food and hazardous waste recycling points
- support for University-wide sustainability events and volunteering in the local community
- initiatives to educate staff on Brookes’ biodiversity practices.
- educational activities and proactively encouraging staff and students to think about recycling, printing, reporting leaking taps, as well as promoting active travel and sustainable engagement opportunities.
