CENDEP’s Zoe Jordan gets ESRC funding to study the impact of the amphetamine Captagon on refugees
This ESRC Responsive Mode research project investigates the supply and use of Captagon in Jordan among refugee and socio-economically marginalised communities.
The project focuses on how the securitised approach to Captagon impacts these vulnerable populations from three perspectives: levels and drivers of drug use; access to drug treatment and support services and lastly, exploitation in the captagon trade.
The research team - Dr Chrissie Steenkamp (PI, Reader in Social and Political Change, Oxford Brookes), Dr Zoe Jordan (Co-I, Senior Lecturer CENDEP, Oxford Brookes), and Prof Mayyada Wazaify (Co-I, School of Pharmacy, University of Jordan) - will work closely with civil society project partners in Jordan who provide support to vulnerable groups to will make recommendations to the Jordanian and international policy communities on how to improve the response to Captagon trafficking and consumption in the Middle East, and how to improve support for those populations most at risk.
