China, International Foundation followed by BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance
“I really like the teachers and I really like their teaching styles. Having had a foundation I really understand what I’m being taught. I’ve found it quite relaxing, quite laid back. However if I do need any help the teachers are always there, they’ve got the office hours.”
Why did you want to study in the UK?
I finished high school here and I just wanted to keep my education going in the UK. I chose Oxford because it has a very academic environment, which I think will be good for my future.
Why did you choose Oxford Brookes?
Oxford Brookes has a very good reputation for Business Accounting and Finance and has many talented people coming out of it and being very successful in their career. So that’s why I came here, that’s what attracted me.
Would you recommend Oxford Brookes to your friends?
If they want to do Business or Hospitality I would definitely recommend Brookes. Especially if they want to get into the same sort of industry as I do. As for the environment I would also definitely recommend Brookes, because as you know we have just got the new Clerici building, and the Sir Kenneth Wheare Hall. The facilities are very good for students especially when we are trying to prepare for our exams. It’s open 24 hours a day as well, so it’s very convenient for the student to get access.
When you first started at Oxford Brookes how did support staff help you settle in?
I would say the most helpful staff member was my academic advisor. Because if I have any general issues, for example if I don’t know what direction to go for, whether or not it’s related to academic studying my academic advisor will always be able to help. To give me a rough direction, so that I know whom to speak to and where to go. So I think that’s very very helpful.
Do you have any advice for future international students?
I’ve been here for a long time, so my advice to people who really want to develop and have a future over here is to improve your English skills try and spend more time actually talking to local people. Try to put yourself in the environment where you have to speak English. Which will definitely help your language skills.
Do you have a favourite place in Oxford?
Within Oxford city it has to be Port Meadow because there’s a beautiful river there and there are so many swans. The area just makes you feel like you’re out of the city for a little while. It’s a really refreshing and really peaceful place, you see the grass and people walking their dogs, the ducks, swans and sometimes even a fox.
