Why did you choose to study a Business and Management degree at Oxford Brookes University?
A Business and Management degree gave me flexibility to explore my likes and dislikes. The course at Oxford Brookes University provided the breadth of modules early on to build foundations and the ability to later tailor my degree towards my chosen career path. The option of a placement year was invaluable in seeing real world application of the theories learnt in lectures. It also enhanced my personal development and has made me stand out in application processes. Oxford is a beautiful city and the facilities at Headington campus provide the perfect learning environment. Oxford Brookes University felt like the natural choice for university.
What has been your favourite module to study on the course and why?
My favourite module has been Purchasing and Supply Chain Management. This was an optional module that I chose in my second year. I found it interesting to see the challenges that affect one area of a business will have implications not only within the business but also for complementary services and competitors. My placement year enabled me to see the theories I learnt in this module in action.
What skills have you developed while studying on the course?
This course has encouraged me to become more confident in my abilities. Group work is a common thread throughout university life and became particularly useful during Managing Careers, where we had to design and hold an Assessment Centre for first year students. Participating in group work has helped to develop my team working, time management and communication skills, which are key transferable skills that will be useful as I start full time work post university.
To what extent has the course helped you set goals for your future career and what are your plans after graduation?
The Business and Management degree has set me up to feel confident of my career path. My placement year combined with the wide choice of modules have inspired me to undertake a role in Project Management within the automotive industry after I finish university. Through this path, I believe that I can implement both the theory and practical elements learnt during my time at Oxford Brookes University.
Have you been involved in any work placements or real-world projects set by employers?
I started my placement search pessimistically. I did not particularly want to take a year out to work, I wanted to carry on and get my degree. After having completed my placement year at MINI in Oxford, I can wholeheartedly see the value it adds to your university experience. You develop in ways you hadn’t expected and become far more self aware. It gives you a head start to understanding what working life is all about and to knowing your likes and dislikes ahead of making your next move after completing your degree. I can 100% recommend a placement.
Anything else you'd like to add about your experience on the course or at Brookes?
I can wholeheartedly say that I am incredibly glad to have chosen Oxford Brookes University.
