BA (Hons) Film
The course offers hands-on experience across every aspect of the film industry.
This covers production, screenwriting, editing, and the business side of film, including festivals and box office analysis. I knew I loved film but wasn’t sure which career path to take. Throughout my three years at Brookes I was able to explore many different aspects of the industry which helped me discover my strengths and passions and pave a path for my future in the film industry.
I love how collaborative the course is.
Filmmaking is a team effort and this course has given me the opportunity to work closely with not only other students within my course but students across other arts courses such as Digital Media. My favourite module was the Short Film Production module because everyone in film came together to support each other in their short film, lending a helping hand wherever needed. Working with people who aligned with my creative ambitions and work ethic made the experience more enjoyable but also resulted in a stronger, more successful project.
I really value the hands-on approach and level of involvement from the tutors.
They have offered numerous opportunities for one-on-one feedback sessions, where I can discuss my work in detail and receive constructive criticism that helps me refine my skills and grow as both a filmmaker and student. Many of our tutors are genuinely invested in our personal growth, offering industry advice and career counselling that has helped in shaping my professional path. They also encourage us to get involved with their film productions, which are great opportunities to gain practical experience while learning firsthand about the workings of the industry.
My advice to future film students: get involved as much as possible.
There are a plethora of opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, to join student film projects, attend workshops, and volunteer on sets - every opportunity helps you grow and learn which in turn will positively influence your work and help you grow both personally and professionally. The film industry is a highly collaborative industry and these opportunities are the best way to network and grow connections with other individuals who have similar interests.
I have had the opportunity to work as a social media marketer for Brookes Film.
This has been part of my work placement for the Creative Industries module. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience and has significantly contributed to my career preparation post-graduation. Completing a work placement while studying was invaluable—it provided real-world experience, improved my time management, and deepened my understanding of the media industry. After graduating, I hope to use the skills and experiences I have gained to pursue a career in freelance social media marketing for film companies or production studios, helping craft digital campaigns that promote films and connect with audiences. I’d love to work on developing social media campaigns for film releases, building engaging content that sparks interest and encourages audience interaction.
