My undergraduate degree was in media
I’ve also completed an MBA in media management. I’ve been working in digital marketing and client management for the past three years. While working, I understood that there is a need for me to elevate my skill set, from a technical perspective. Oxford Brookes offers a very special course MSc Management and Business Analytics, which is a key for people who do not come from a technical background. I didn't see a course like this anywhere, this was my primary reason for choosing this course, because I wanted to elevate my skill set in analytics and wanted to explore more of the technical side of the work.
The things that we are learning are related to software
We are developing our skills where we can present complex data simply to an audience who do not have the complex data knowledge. You could be presenting to international professionals at a company so they can understand it. We are learning about Python, SQL, and R studios. It has been a very thrilling journey up till now because we’ve also looked at proper coding stuff. Although I’m not from a technical background, the course modules are built in a way that I was able to capture and learn the data side. It has definitely been challenging at times, but it has been very thrilling. I have learned much.
Tutors have been very friendly
They have offered us good advice and guidance, especially when we were stuck, and we needed help. Because I’m an international student, they don't mind taking an extra step to help us through the process. Things were challenging when our assignments were due. So I scheduled a question session with my professor two days before the submission, and he was kind enough to guide me through the task. So always ask for help, it is there.
I prefer to spend most of my time in the library for my studies as well
We did an entire assignment sitting in the library because the computers are faster than our personal laptops. I’m only 10 minutes away from campus.
I’ve worked on client facing projects
And now by learning and progressing my knowledge of data, I understand the data and how it backs up our theories. When presenting to a client, the data is my evidence and why I’m suggesting this approach and why it is that we have to go this way with the project. It's an absolute must for us to present evidence. It has helped me understand all marketing aspects, like what area should we target? Why should we do this? Because we have data. So for me professionally, this course has definitely been an elevator. My analytical skill set has been improved, because I can now say that I know analytics and I can do this for you as well as offering marketing advice.
I'm looking forward to roles which have marketing and data analytics, or as a digital marketing analyst, so that I can help companies better their digital marketing, and improve sales by using data analytics. That is something I'm looking forward to, working in the UK or in my home country. I'm open to all options, I'm looking forward to working in these specific fields.
Oxford is a really beautiful place
Back in India, we are not used to living in a quiet atmosphere. Oxford is a good place for a student to live. We have all the facilities you need and Oxford is a peaceful place with student communities and is safe as a city.
