LLB Law with Criminology

I have a longstanding interest in legal principles and the study of criminal behaviour

This influenced my decision to pursue an LLB in Law with Criminology at Oxford Brookes. The programme offers a unique opportunity to understand the practical application of law within society, while simultaneously exploring the underlying causes of crime.

The curriculum has been consistently engaging

Modules such as Criminal and Contract Law have been particularly insightful. Exploring the intricacies of criminal liability and contract formation has deepened my understanding of these fundamental legal areas. Furthermore, the Theories of Crime module has allowed me to delve into the complex factors that contribute to criminal behaviour.

I have found Oxford Brookes to be exceptionally supportive

Module leaders, lecturers, and seminar tutors are readily accessible. Their willingness to provide guidance, both through email and during office hours, has been extremely helpful. I strongly encourage future students to actively participate in seminars. These sessions provide an essential platform for applying lecture material and clarifying complex concepts through peer work. Engaging with the Law Society is also highly recommended, as it offers valuable networking opportunities and exposure to legal professionals through various events and talks.

Initially, managing the extensive reading load presented a challenge

However, by implementing a structured study schedule and consistently dedicating time to reading, I have been able to effectively manage my workload.

The programme has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of diverse legal career paths

The development of critical thinking and communication skills, through my seminars and problem-based learning, has been particularly beneficial. Applying legal principles to real-world scenarios has equipped me with the ability to analyse complex situations and formulate effective legal solutions. Additionally, the University's LawIDEAS newsletter has provided access to valuable extracurricular opportunities, including a work experience placement with the Crown Prosecution Service. This experience offered invaluable insights into the criminal justice system and allowed me to network with legal professionals. My ambition is to pursue a career as a Barrister, with a focus on either commercial law, specialising in contract disputes, or criminal law and handling serious offences.
