MSc Management and Business Analytics

Several factors influenced my decision to choose Oxford Brookes

Oxford is a historic city with a diverse, multicultural environment. The university itself has an excellent global reputation and strong rankings. There is a real career focus on the course and opportunities for networking; once you graduate from Oxford Brookes Business School, you’re introduced to a network of industry experts, technical experts, academic experts and so on.

The modules are all interesting

And equip you to be a well qualified business professional. The modules that I enjoyed are The Practice of Data Analysis where we learnt the programming language “R” with amazing supervision by the module leaders, Abdul and Noman. The module, Business Intelligence taught us critical data analysis and how to use SQL, Excel and Tableau. We also had modules for developing skills for leadership and employability, teaching us interpersonal skills. Finally, the Research Methods module  helped to build my research skills that are needed for postgraduate study.

The tutors are all approachable

They guided us in everything, no matter how small the query. Even if students couldn’t rectify their queries in class, there were office hours where we could visit them and get all of our course queries sorted.

The course cohort has expertise from diverse fields

We all shared the passion to learn and grow our knowledge and skills. We had team building activities delivered by our tutor Dan Ganly where we developed our social skills, and built a collaborative mindset. During this semester we had an experiential learning week where you get a one-week break from your modules and you get to choose from different activities such as

  • Cloud skills boost day by AWS Academy
  • Financial markets by Bloomberg
  • Developing a sustainability mindset
  • Strategic planning
  • Body swaps virtual reality tool to develop soft and interview skills

I enrolled myself in AWS where we learned about cloud computing and, for a business analyst, I feel that acquiring these skills is an integral part of my learning journey. We also got free pizza, so overall it was an amazing experience. A special mention to programme leader, Dr Xu Huang for being so humble, helpful, welcoming, and taking care of all the students from day one.

I went from being a working professional to returning to my studies

The decision to complete my master's successfully was a long-shot that I made for my career progression. I’m thankful to Oxford Brookes for providing a course that aligns with my goals. The course has given me flexibility in leadership and data-driven roles. These are the areas that I will explore. I’m interested in business analyst, leadership and management, or business development roles. After grasping the key learnings from each module, I have developed a motto for myself “be ethical, be sustainable”.
