PGCE Primary 5-11

Oxford Brookes was the perfect choice for me.

The university’s outstanding reputation, along with the fact that many of my family members had studied there and loved their experience, made my decision an easy one. I was confident that I would enjoy it just as much. Additionally, as a new mother at the time, its close proximity to home allowed me to balance both my academic pursuits and personal life effectively.

My tutors were always there to support me.

The guidance and encouragement I received from my tutors made a significant difference in my journey. They were always available to offer advice, helping me navigate challenges and develop the confidence I needed to succeed—I couldn’t have done it without them.

The diverse mix of students made the experience even more rewarding.

Our course brought together students from a variety of backgrounds and age groups, creating a rich and supportive learning environment. At the start of each lecture, we were encouraged to sit in different spots, which helped us form new connections. I developed a particularly strong bond with six fellow students, and despite now living in different countries, we still keep in touch.

The course prepared me for my career in so many ways.

Beyond qualifying as a teacher, my PGCE equipped me with the essential skills to be an effective educator. I developed the ability to communicate clearly, adapt lessons for diverse learners, and manage classrooms with confidence. The course also helped me refine my critical reflection skills, allowing me to continuously improve my teaching practice. I learned how to build meaningful relationships with students, collaborate with colleagues, and use innovative methods to keep learners engaged and motivated.

I use the skills I gained at Brookes every day.

Many of the skills I developed during the course, especially through my own research, have proven invaluable in my teaching role. From lesson planning to classroom management, my time at Oxford Brookes gave me the foundation I needed to thrive as an educator.
