Jordan, Pre-Master's followed by Master's in Business
“I think this course gave me confidence - I don’t need to ask someone for help. ”
Why did you choose to come to Oxford Brookes?
Actually, because Oxford is a well-known and very famous city. When you say Oxford, all everyone will think about is that it is a high reputation city, also because all the dictionaries come from Oxford. When I was studying in Jordan, a lot of teachers told me to use the Oxford dictionary. Also, Oxford is multicultural; you meet people from every nationality, which is very important.
Why did you choose to study this course at Oxford Brookes?
I will be honest: I’m not brilliant at English, so at the same time I’m not willing to go and study postgraduate directly, because it’s not easy, and you need to study hard. You have to know about the procedures and how to do a dissertation. I think Pathways teaches me how to do this before being involved in this postgraduate studies.
What do you like most about living in Oxford?
There are lots of parks where you can walk around in the nature and feel relaxed. It’s a quiet city, very natural, calm and clean. Sometimes I go to the cinemas, because there are a lot of discounts for students. I like the nature here in the UK and especially in Oxford. It’s a small city too; you can walk around in just maybe two or three hours.
How do you think this course will help you progress on to your main postgraduate programme?
I think it will help me, very much - I’m learning how to do my dissertation and how to make references. I have never done anything like this in Jordan, because we don’t work like this. Here, you have to show evidence for every single article or journal. It will be easier for me when I am going to study postgraduate, so I don’t have to struggle to find any sources. When I’m going to study my masters I will have a lot of background about my subject.
Which of the University’s facilities have you found the most useful?
That must be the library. It’s an amazing place: you can study at any time because it’s open for 24 hours. I have never seen this in my country. The library is like my home honestly – I don’t have to struggle to find a place to study here.
Would you recommend your pathways course to another student, and if so why?
Absolutely, Pathways helps us to improve our English, increase our confidence, and meet a lot of people. I have met many people who are professional in the English language, but at the moment they’re struggling in their postgraduate courses because they don’t know about how to do a bibliography or how to do references. If you need to study postgraduate directly, you have to be ready and you don’t have time to prepare. That is why I strongly recommend people who want to study in English for their master's to do this course.
