BA International Relations and Politics

I have always been really interested in politics,

especially in international politics. Therefore International Relations and Politics at Oxford Brookes had all my interests in one course. I attended an online open day, and all the lecturers who ran the open day were welcoming and I liked the support I got even before studying here. Oxford Brookes was the best choice for me.

One module that does stand out is State and Society: Europe

I studied this module in the first semester of my second year. It was particularly interesting to me because of my strong interest in European politics. The module covered the background  of European politics and explored the numerous topics within European politics.

The tutors are helpful and want you to do well

The tutors know who I am, which adds a real personal aspect to the course. This aspect further contributed to my learning. You can send tutors an email or speak to them during their office hours. They're always happy to help you and want you to succeed. Another important aspect is to stay organised, however make sure to take a break from your studies every now and then.

I took a work-based  module in my second year

I had a placement with East Oxford’s MP, Anneliese Dodds. Anneliese is now Minister for Development at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Minister for Women and Equalities at the Department for Education. It was a great experience where I learned a lot about the work the MPs do, and what it means to work for a MP. In January, I participated in a study trip to Brussels to visit EU institutions, followed by a visit to The Hague to explore the International Court of Justice.  It has been interesting to learn how institutions function.

I will continue studying politics

In the future, I would like to study  a postgraduate degree in European politics to continue building on the knowledge I already have. The work-based module helped me understand what field I want to work in after finishing university.
