MSc Finance

I chose Oxford Brookes as it is a world leading institution in the QS World University Rankings, especially in accounting and finance courses.

The modules give you a broad understanding of the different areas of finance that can facilitate various career options for you. Also, the location was another key deciding factor, as its close proximity to London was advantageous, given that London is a finance hub. Lastly, I really liked the social media presence of Oxford Brookes because it helped me in getting to know more about the university and connecting with it before even coming to the UK.

I’ve enjoyed all the modules that we studied

As each one provides good insights on different aspects of finance. I particularly enjoyed financial modelling as it was practical-based and I really liked working with MS Excel to develop working models based on assumptions and it improved my Excel skills to a great extent. Moreover, I found modules like Corporate Finance concepts and Financial Markets and institutions really interesting as they introduced me to concepts that I’ve never studied before, and they were taught in a way that was easy to understand.

The tutors were very helpful throughout the course

and delivered the lectures in a very interactive and fun way by comparing and contrasting different concepts with real-life scenarios. They were available whenever I had doubts or needed guidance and extra support outside of the lecture hours. I could easily contact them via email or book an appointment to seek guidance. I've made some good friends, I really liked the fact that I got to know people from varied backgrounds and learned a lot about different cultures and countries. I worked on a group presentation as part of one of my modules and it helped me to learn more about my classmates that I worked with.

The course is based on practical learning

It introduced me to various software and helped improve my technical skills. I had the opportunity to access the Bloomberg terminal through the Bloomberg Trading Suite, which I think was one of the most amazing opportunities that this course provided. The fact that major global companies and I are using the same platform to access analytics and data was truly something that made this course distinct from others. Also, I was introduced to Gretl, which is another important software for analysing data through regression analysis. I’ve also used Xero and SPSS as part of my Professional and Digital Skills module which are important accounting and statistical software respectively, that are in-demand in the job market. I believe that using all this software has significantly enhanced my learning experience, and skillset as a graduate jobseeker.

I now have an extensive knowledge of the financial world.

And I’ve also improved a number of personal skills like communication, attention to detail, organising, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The career counselling and guidance team is great in providing guidance with career direction. I booked an appointment with a career counsellor and it really helped me in improving my CV and cover letter for better job seeking. I can definitely say that choosing Oxford Brookes and this course was a decision that has helped me a lot in making informed decisions about my career. I would love to be working in a dynamic and growing position where every day is different from the other day. Particularly, I would love to see myself working in investment management and I’m considering pursuing a professional qualification to further upskill myself.
