Children’s Nursing
“Enrolling in Children’s Nursing at Brookes is certainly one of the best decisions I have ever made!”
Having completed some work experience at a children’s hospital in London I was inspired by what nurses could do for children and their families. I wanted to have the power to change somebody’s life and be there for children and families in their time of need.
So far the part of my course I’ve enjoyed the most is my practice placement. Talking to patients, working within a multidisciplinary team and learning clinical skills enables me to see how the theory we learn in lectures is applied in practice. I’ve had lots of opportunities to see different aspects of healthcare, from operations to clinical procedures like lumbar punctures and echocardiograms. The placements are well organised and there’s plenty of support from the university if you have any problems.
Living in Oxford is great because of the wide range of things to; from punting in the summer months and chilling out in South Park with my friends, to finding cosy little cafes in the winter. I found it easy to make friends with both the people in my halls and on my course.
After graduating I plan to go straight into work as a children’s nurse.
