BA (Hons) Business and Management
Initially, I wasn’t set on going to university
However, the Business and Management programme offered by Oxford Brookes really stood out to me after attending an Open Day. A key factor in my decision was the programme's balanced approach, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application. The hands-on methodology, emphasising real-world skills, was pivotal in my decision to choose Oxford Brookes. The programme's adaptability to the evolving business landscape, particularly in response to technological advancements and AI, was also highly appealing. The curriculum's focus on societal impact, environmental considerations, and disruptive innovation further solidified my choice.
The course opens up many diverse career paths
The modules provide you with a comprehensive understanding of various business facets. First-year modules covered foundational topics like accounting, marketing, and economics. Second-year flexibility allowed for personalised module selection, aligning with individual career goals. The structured lecture and seminar format, with one-hour lectures followed by one-hour seminars, effectively reinforced learning and helped with practical application. Modules like 'Exploring International Business,' 'Digital Technology and Mathematics,' and 'Organisational Behaviour and Management' were really engaging, and offered diverse assessment methods and practical skill development.
Academic advisors provided consistent guidance throughout the programme
Furthermore, lecturers and seminar tutors were highly supportive and responsive. The smaller seminar groups fostered interactive discussions and personalised assistance. The University's comprehensive support network, including student coordinators, contributed to a comfortable and conducive learning environment for me. I strongly advise prospective students to attend all lectures and seminars, as they provide invaluable insights and opportunities for engagement. Oxford Brookes also offers support resources like the Centre for Academic Development, time management workshops, and library services, which were instrumental in overcoming challenges related to independent study for me, like managing my time effectively, and academic writing.
The 'Developing Professional Practice' and 'Placement Preparation' modules were instrumental in preparing me for my career
These modules focused on essential workplace skills, including CV writing, interview techniques, and placement preparation. The University's career services and industry networks further enhanced my career readiness. While my future career path is still evolving, I feel equipped with the skills and knowledge I’ve gained at Oxford Brookes. My interest in human resources, project management, and finance has been cultivated through engaging and relevant modules. I plan to pursue specialised modules and internships to further refine my career aspirations. I am confident that Oxford Brookes has provided me with the necessary foundation for success in the professional world.
