One of the key reasons I chose Oxford Brookes
Was that the modules aligned perfectly with my academic interests and career aspirations. I also previously heard of Oxford Brookes through its partnership with the ACCA programme, which gave me confidence in the quality of education they offer. Location was another significant factor. I wanted to study in a city that was student-friendly but also offered excellent career opportunities post-graduation. Oxford checked all these boxes for me.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the modules
If I had to highlight a few, Finance and Strategy would top the list. I learnt fascinating insights into how financial decisions align with broader corporate strategies, which felt incredibly relevant to real-world scenarios. Quantitative Methods for Finance sharpened my analytical skills and introduced me to tools and techniques for interpreting financial data, giving me a solid foundation in data-driven decision-making. Finally, Corporate Finance stood out because it provides a deep understanding of critical topics like capital structure and valuation, which helped me see the bigger picture of how businesses operate financially.
The tutors at Oxford Brookes
Are highly knowledgeable and incredibly approachable and supportive. During my dissertation, my supervisor played a pivotal role in guiding me through the research process. He provided constructive feedback at every stage, from refining my research question to analysing data and presenting my findings. Their encouragement and expertise made what could have been a daunting task, a rewarding and enriching experience. Whether it’s through emails, scheduled office hours, or quick chats after class, they are consistently available to support students.
My cohort has been a fantastic group to work with
We come from diverse backgrounds, which has created a dynamic learning environment where different perspectives are valued. It’s been great collaborating with fellow students on various group projects, such as case studies and presentations, where we could combine our individual strengths to solve problems. I’ve made both study friends and personal connections during my time at Oxford Brookes. We often meet up for study sessions, particularly before exams/assessments. Beyond studying, we also get together for social events, which has helped create a strong sense of community within the cohort.
An impactful part of the programme was
the business simulation we participated in for seven weeks. We were grouped into teams and tasked with managing a business as if it were a live operation. We had to make real-time decisions on finance, marketing and operations, and it gave me an authentic understanding of how businesses function under pressure. The Bloomberg Trading simulation allowed me to develop not only my analytical and decision-making skills but also my teamwork and leadership abilities, which will be invaluable in my future career.
My immediate goal is to secure a position in a finance-related role,
such as financial analysis, management consulting, or even corporate finance. I’m interested in roles that allow me to work on strategic decision-making and financial modelling, as I found these areas to be the most engaging during my studies. I would love to work in an environment that fosters innovation and allows me to continuously develop my skills—whether through further qualifications, networking or taking on challenging projects. I’m eager to embark on the next chapter of my career and I am confident that the foundation built during my time at Oxford Brookes will help me reach my goals.
