Children’s Nursing
“Oxford is a great student city, with the John Radcliffe hospital nearby, great placement opportunities and a good nightlife”
I’ve learned a variety of essential nursing skills in the skills labs at Brookes, which are functional and well equipped, preparing us for practice. The John Henry Brookes building has a great, modern library and study facilities.
So far I have really enjoyed all of my placements, which have mainly been at the John Radcliffe Children’s Hospital. I feel as though I have had a great and varied experience; everyone on the course experiences surgical nursing, medical nursing, and a variety of community settings.
The course staff have organised for representatives from hospitals around the UK to come and talk to us about job opportunities. As third year students we have mock interviews with the lecturers in order to prepare us.
After completing the course I plan to work as a nurse at a children’s hospital. My aim is to be a caring and compassionate children’s nurse and I believe that Brookes has given me the skills to achieve this.
