Dr Nynke van Polanen
Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences
School of Biological and Medical Sciences
Role
I obtained my undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Health and a MSc in Molecular Nutrition and Toxicology at Wageningen University & Research (the Netherlands). In 2021, I was awarded a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Maastricht University, where I studied lipid droplets in human muscle tissue in relation to insulin resistance. I used fluorescent microscopy to visualize the lipid droplets and respirometry to analyse mitochondrial function. During my postdoctoral research at University of Oxford, I studied mitochondrial metabolism in patients with mitochondrial diseases. During my postgraduate and postdoctoral research, I have been involved in various undergraduate/postgraduate teachings and research projects. In 2023, I joined Oxford Brookes University as a lecturer in Biomedical Sciences.
