My interest lies in gene regulation and the role of sensory systems within bacterial biofilms especially Rhodobacter sphaeroides. This extends from planktonic swimming in the environment to surface colonisation, mature biofilm development and then release of cells into the environment. the chemosensory system, metabolic changes, matrix production and Quorum Sensing all have a role in this.
