Role
Helen qualified as a Registered Children’s Nurse from Cardiff University in 2014. She has since worked as a Paediatric Critical Care Nurse in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, which has become her area of nursing expertise. Her passion for teaching and education stemmed from supporting student and newly qualified nurses in her clinical practice. Helen has been lecturing at Oxford Brookes University on the children’s nursing pre-registration course since 2020 and currently works part time lecturing, whilst working clinically part time as a band 5 staff nurse in Paediatric Critical Care at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Helen has undertaken further study into nursing critically ill children at London Southbank University and maintains her European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS) certificate. More recently Helen has obtained Fellowship with Advance HE, recognising her ability to teach in higher education.
Teaching and supervision
Helen teaches across a range of theoretical and practical modules on the Nursing (Children’s) BSc Hons programme including:
- Clinical Practice Experience Modules 1, 2 and 3
- Assessing and Planning Care for Children and Young People
- Biosciences for Nursing Practice
- Nursing Children Requiring Complex Care
