Role

After fifteen years art directing photography books and magazines such as Elle and Tatler, Grant began to work solely as a photographer for a number of commercial and editorial clients in 2000. His images bring together all of his experience working with some of the greatest photographers of the last century with his graphic and journalistic talents. His work is held in the permanent collections of MOMA, New York, The Victoria & Albert Museum, London, The Tate, London and The British Library.

Specialising in photography, the moving image, visual narrative and professional practices, Grant teaches across the BA Photography course and is currently Subject Co-ordinator for Photography. He is a working photographer and has written three books on photography including The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography. Grant is also the founder/ curator of www.unitednationsofphotography.com and the presenter/producer of the weekly podcast A Photographic Life.

Research

I am particularly interested in visual language and visual story telling.  I also investigate pedagogic teaching of professional photography and the future of photography as a mass media medium.

I am currently developing and presenting:

  • A Photographic Life weekly podcast 
  • A Photographic Audio Archive

I am responsible for creating a film intitled "No not bend; The photographic life of Bill Jay"   I am also the curator and editor of the United Nations of Photography.

I am currently completing a PhD by publication at Oxford Brookes University on the topic of "Narative and visual storytelling: accessing memory and the personal in the published work of Grant Scott".
