Role
Annelies is a senior lecturer for the Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery with expertise in intensive care nursing and childhood and family bereavement support. Alongside her academic role for the university, Annelies is a community childhood bereavement support practitioner, supporting children and families within Oxfordshire, and a PhD research student in Psychology at the Centre for Psychological Research, Oxford Brookes University.
Annelies’ primary research interest focuses on family and childhood bereavement, particularly in the context of unexpected deaths. Currently pursuing a PhD with the Centre for Psychological Research, Annelies is investigating the experiences of parents and ICU clinicians in providing bereavement support to children visiting the ICU when someone close to them is dying. Her research involves close collaboration and co-design with parents and ICU clinicians to develop practical recommendations that aim to enhance the experiences of children at such a crucial time.

Modules taught
Annelies teaches on a range of pre and post-registration modules for the Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery in both the UK and Hong Kong, as part of the university’s Flying Faculty.
Annelies supervises final year dissertation nursing students and welcomes requests from students with a particular interest in the psychology of grief, childhood and family bereavement support.
Research
Currently pursuing a PhD with the Centre for Psychological Research, Oxford Brookes University, Annelies is exploring the nature of child-centred bereavement support when someone significant to the child is dying in the ICU. Her research involves close collaboration with parents, children and healthcare professionals, with a view to enhancing the berevement experience for children, families and the clinicians who support them during this crucial time.
Annelies is a member of the Children and Families Research Group, Oxford Brookes University.
