Abbey Halcli is a Principal Lecturer in Sociology. She completed an MA and PhD in Sociology at Ohio State University, USA. Her research interests include gender, political sociology and social movements. She lectures in the areas of global sociology, gender and society, and classical and contemporary social theory.

Research

Abbey has a long-standing interest in women in politics and has published work on attitudes toward feminism and the gendered dimensions of political participation and political institutions in the United States and United Kingdom. She has also published research on the AIDS activist movement and on American foundation funding of social movement organisations. Her work appears in Health and Place, The European Journal of Social Theory and in Women's Studies International Forum. She is currently conducting research on the role of transnational advocacy networks as important actors in global HIV and AIDS governance.
