The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences brings together the School of Education, Humanities and Languages and the School of Law and Social Sciences with the Institute of Public Care. We have a reputation for teaching excellence, internationally recognised research and unrivalled student support.
Teaching and research

Research is the foundation for excellence throughout our activities as confirmed by our results in the RAE 2008. We include aspects of our research in all our courses, we teach specialist modules in our areas of expertise and we supervise dissertations in our specialist subjects. We encourage students at every level of study to become involved through our seminar series, research centres and special interest research groups.
Consultancy and knowledge transfer
The Institute of Public Care (IPC) is one of Britain's leading knowledge transfer organisations, working across primary care, education, social care and supported housing. It has a team of experienced consultants whose skills encompass expertise in adults' services, children's services, housing and community health care.
Our Modern Languages Unit provides a range of professional language services to business including market research, language classes, cultural briefings and even support with relocating to or from the UK.
The Centre for Educational Consultancy and Development works in partnership with providers from all education sectors. The centre offers applied, research informed consultancy, from short focused interventions to broader, whole school solutions.
Professional development and training
Oxford Brookes' School of Education, Humanities and Languages is one of the UK's largest providers of professional development in education and offers professional certificates, masters degrees and doctorates across a wide range of subject areas and areas of professional application. As well as consultancy, the Centre for Educational Consultancy and Development offers a range of CPD short courses to give practical ideas to help in the classroom, bespoke CPD courses to meet the individual needs of schools and colleges and a range of master's level courses in subject areas such as literacy difficulties, special educational needs and leadership and management.
