Part time: Scheduled Learning & Teaching Activities: 32 hours. Guided Independent Study: 300 hours.
This course is not available to students classed as International for fees purposes.
Overview
This module will enable you to competently undertake a full physical examination of the newborn. This will be from a holistic perspective, critically appraising the relevant antenatal and intrapartum factors in relation to contemporary literature and professional responsibilities. This will also be in accordance with local and national policy, as well as the current standards of the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) Screening Committee, Public Health England.
Upon completion of this NIPE module, you will have developed the necessary skills to conduct newborn examinations. You will also have gained vital underpinning theoretical knowledge in order to undertake these examinations according to up to date, evidence-based practice.
This module can be taken as part of a masters pathway in the Health Sciences Open Award.
You will be assessed through an in-class test and practical examinations.

You must be a registered midwife or neonatal nurse, and be supported to achieve practical requirements by your employing Trust.

English language requirements
In addition to the academic entry qualifications, if your first language is not English you must demonstrate that your level of English is appropriate for study at postgraduate level. An IELTS overall score of 7.0 is required for this course.

Tuition fees
Fees quoted are for the first year only. If you are studying a course that lasts longer than one year your fees will increase each year.
How and when to pay
Tuition fee instalments for the semester are due by the Monday of week 1 of each semester. Students are not liable for full fees for that semester if they leave before week 4. If the leaving date is after week 4, full fees for the semester are payable.
