Within this Enhancing Professional Practice module, learners will develop their understanding of enhanced practice in the provision of a discrete aspect of patient care within their current level of practice.

Evidence-based practice is the cornerstone for the provision of high-quality enhanced care. Learners will develop their skills in considering, critiquing, and appraising research and evidence to inform and develop their decision-making and clinical reasoning skills. Critical consideration of service requirements will enable learners to facilitate enhancements and changes to practice and service delivery, recognising the value of education of self and others.

Learning and assessment

The module will be delivered using a mixture of asynchronous learning activities and discussions via the Moodle platform, and synchronous seminars delivered via Zoom. All activities will be facilitated by the module team, in conjunction with relevant specialist experts, while also providing the opportunity to learn both with and from peers.

Learning and teaching

Each unit of learning will focus on the key module topics (as outlined above). There will be opportunities for learners to engage in a broad range of topics through reading, reviewing, and critiquing relevant literature and theories. Learners will be encouraged to participate in debate and discussion, by sharing knowledge and relevant practice experiences, and further use the knowledge and experience of facilitators and peers to enhance their learning. There is an expectation that learners will use these opportunities to develop their skills in practice, by bringing the learning to the workplace, applying it, and reflecting critically on their own enhanced practice.

Assessment

Assessment methods used on this course

Assessment of the module is via a summative e-portfolio comprising of 10 pieces of evidence to support personal development of enhanced practice, aligned to the learning outcomes. One piece of evidence will be explored in detail, critically reviewing and synthesising the underpinning evidence base to support the chosen practice. This will allow learners to develop their understanding of enhanced practice, relevant to their scope and respective field, exploring how relevant concepts and theory have been applied to their learning.
