A group of 26 undergraduate and postgraduate marketing students relished an opportunity to meet some of the best marketing and communications professionals in the world at WPP.

The field trip to WPP’s worldwide headquarters in London was part of an exclusive field trip organised by the Marketing Subject Group at Oxford Brookes Business School.

WPP specialise in communications, brand experiences, commerce and technology and operate in over 100 countries, working with clients including 303 of the Fortune Global 500.

The students actively engaged with WPP’s innovative strategies, gaining invaluable insights into the fast-evolving field of marketing and communications. Their enthusiasm and excitement were evident throughout the day. As part of the experience, students worked on a live client project centred around a sustainability initiative tied to WPP’s corporate project, Future Readiness Academies.

In addition to the hands-on project, which allowed the students to work in small groups and then present their ideas to a panel of marketing experts at WPP, the students also had opportunities to network with industry professionals, expanding their understanding of career paths. The WPP team connected with engaged students, fostering valuable exchanges.

Alberto Nania, who is studying the BA Digital Marketing course said, “The workshop on a real marketing challenge was engaging. The opportunity to chat with the speakers and get professional advice was incredibly valuable.”

MSc Global Marketing Student, Tess Winebaum added, “I loved how we not only got to learn about the various agencies under WPP from engaging senior management, but also partake in a live campaign brief to address their business needs. I'm excited to participate in the next open day!”

Dr Bjoern Asmussen, Senior Lecturer in Marketing said: “So far, we have organised four exclusive Open Day and Workshop events with leading communications agencies in the UK for our marketing students at Oxford Brookes Business School. The field trip to WPP was an incredibly immersive experience for our students to get a glimpse into how one of the most creative companies in the world operates. The team at WPP was incredibly generous with their time which allowed our students to engage with several brand and marketing industry experts.”

Experiential learning is at the heart of the Oxford Brookes Business School student experience. Students regularly engage in real-world challenges set by businesses to enable them to develop important soft and hard skills that will kick-start their careers after they graduate.
