Events Management students recognised at national Events Management awards
Events Management students have been nominated for the '2024 Student Awards and Student Live Event Awards' presented by the Association for Events Management Education (AEME).
These awards celebrate future professionals in the Events sector and their success while studying events management programmes.
Following the judging, the AEME '2024 Student Awards' (individual) and 'Student Live Event Awards' (teams/groups) nominees and winners were announced at the 20th Anniversary annual AEME Forum on 4 July at Sheffield Hallam University.
Second year student, Tilly Redman was nominated in the 'Best Festival Sector Focus' category, and Isha Lakhani for 'Outstanding Achievement Award: Most Inspirational Student'.
The competition was strong with undergraduate and postgraduate Events Management students competing against students studying at universities across the country.
Tilly Redman was crowned the winner of the 'Best Festival Sector Focus' category for her work with the Box Office team with Ticketmaster. Tilly worked across many live music festival events developing and applying her understanding of the operational side of events, and specifically the requirements from the ticketing team.
Tilly said: "Receiving this award and being the first Oxford Brookes student to win this particular category, has prompted me to reflect on my events journey so far and how far I've come from being the introverted person I once was. The opportunities, support, and encouragement I've received have been invaluable in allowing me to pursue my passions.
“From my work with Ticketmaster UK, volunteering at the International Live Music Conference and all the wild and wonderful opportunities these have brought - I can only thank all of the people that have offered these opportunities. This recognition holds immense significance for me for this year more than any other, after a challenging year. Through unwavering dedication, hard work in my academic studies, and efforts toward my future career, I've further ignited my passion for the industry and I’m so pleased my efforts have been recognised by the AEME."
Isha said: “To be very honest, when I read the email about my nomination, I was initially shocked. It seemed surreal to me that I got nominated in my second year at university. Since my first day at Oxford Brookes, I have been determined to learn about all things Event Management. I haven't missed a single opportunity to enhance my knowledge about the event industry. My determination to immerse myself in the diverse event industry meant I was ready to volunteer at the Radley Triathlon, an investor conference for Oxfordshire Greentech, work as a Box Office Assistant with Ticketmaster, and even start an Event Management Society at Oxford Brookes. I would like to thank the professors who nominated me for this award and every single person who has supported me on my 'eventful' journey so far. I am feeling very grateful and lucky to be where I am today.”
Dr Gordon Yan, Programme Lead for Hospitality, Tourism and Events undergraduate programmes said: “Congratulations Isha and Tilly. We are proud of you for making this success happen. Your endurance and determination set examples for events management students at Brookes to follow”.
