TEAMBrookes Offset Carbon Emissions
As part of Brookes Sport’s ongoing drive to take responsibility for our impact on the environment, we have offset the carbon emissions associated with TEAMBrookes travel to and from BUCS sporting fixtures and competitions.
As part of a review into our environment impact, Brookes Sport identified inter-university fixtures and competition travel as our prime source of carbon emissions. While we are continuously looking for more climate friendly means of transport, we wanted to make an immediate impact, and offsetting our carbon footprint from minibus and car travel allows us to take accountability for this.
We therefore compensate for our carbon footprint through a number of different projects facilitated by climate experts, Climate Impact Partners.
The investment goes towards international sustainability projects which aim to deliver on many outcomes that link to our core principles of health and physical activity.
Across the 21/22 academic year, over 30 TEAMBrookes sports clubs travelled a combined 73,500 miles to take part in BUCS competition - this equated to roughly 21.5 carbon tonnes emitted.
Discussions continue to expand to incorporate additional sports club activity - such as regular training trips to external venues and international sporting tours - to ensure we can offset even more carbon emissions going forwards..
